Education opportunities of the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum are abundant depending upon each person's desires.

Each second Saturday of each month the Arboretum provides education programs or speakers free to the public. Programs are selected to address items of interest during the various seasons of the year. The speakers and programs are presented by professional nurserymen, educators and other gardening experts.  Refreshments begin at 9:30am with the program starting at 10am lasting one hour or one hour thirty minutes.  The programs may be show and tell and each program provides time for questions and answers.

Simultaneous with the education program there is a program for the youngsters to learn about gardening and the arboretum with projects and games.

The second Saturday programs are offered at the Interpretive Center at 4111 University.  The little red brick house on the corner.

Tours of the gardens are offered by appointment and are suitable for school or scout groups.

Self-guided tours can be made at any time.  Many of the plants are identified to assist you during your tour. For group tour appointments call the arboretum office 806-797-4520 or e-mail lubarbo@lubbockarboretum.org .

Many brochures giving instruction and information on a variety of gardening topics are available at no charge at the Interpretive Center.  There is a large library of gardening books available for you to browse through.

The gardens are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for you to walk, sit, breathe and enjoy the solitude of the arboretum in the heart of Lubbock

The Arboretum Foundation board also cooperates and coordinates two garden tours with homeowners in the Lubbock area.  A spring garden tour is offered in late spring to give the homeowners a chance to get their gardens in prime condition for the public tour.  There is a modest charge, which goes into the development fund of the arboretum. Usually 8 to 10 gardens are selected each year for the garden tour.

A favorite tour for area residents is the pond tour usually in late summer and is operated much like the spring garden tour.  Eight to ten homeowners with interesting ponds are selected for the public's enjoyment.  A modest fee provides entrance into all the gardens with the proceeds going to the arboretum development fund
